ADAM'S MORGAN LIBRARY

This library design is located in Adam’s Morgan along the Adams Mill corridor in North West Washington, D.C.

Libraries are dwelling places for the mind. In libraries you find the depository of collective memories. Today libraries are going through a radical change. With the arrival of the “digital” age access to knowledge and to information has expanded exponentially and information is accessible through smart phones, tablets, laptops and computers.

Before design, a program analysis was conducted. The envelope functions as a light box that is protected by louvers for heat gain. Inspired by Le Corbusier’s 5 Points to a New Architecture, it was decided that the interior spaces would be determined using a promenade that is determined by light, guiding people on ramps throughout the building, and experiencing planes enclosed by a glass box. The architectural promenade guides visitors throughout the building to the top café level.
